"Nocturne in E Flat Major" - Musical Analysis #2

Image
If you're someone like me who's watched countless short videos on YouTube, then you've most likely heard this classical piece playing in the background in one of them. I'm talking about Nocturne in E Flat Major  written and composed by Frederic Chopin. This song was published in 1832 during the Romantic period of music in the city of Paris, and is considered Chopin's most famous piece out of the 21 Nocturnes. Just hearing the first few notes would make most people recognize what is being played. I feel like this could be something to enjoy on a relaxing day, or background music to give a nice atmosphere while doing an important task during the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p29JUpsOSTE Meter  - The song is written in a 12/8 time signature and is played in such a way that it sounds like a waltz, but not really intended to be. Many classical pieces use a 3/4 time signature, with a heavy emphasis on the first note which is common for waltzes, but this piece feels...

"Sweden" by C418 - Musical Analysis #1

I remember back in my childhood being so fond of Minecraft that it would be one of the best feelings of my life when my cousin booted up the Xbox 360 console. In a world full of digitalized cubes that gave players endless imagination and creativity, there were soundtracks that blended in perfectly in the background to create an immersive atmosphere. There were a few songs that stood out to me so much that I taught myself how to play them on the piano, one of them being "Sweden", which gives me a nostalgic feeling from my childhood. "Sweden" is a song composed by Daniel Rosenfeld, widely known as C418, to be included in a soundtrack for the popular game Minecraft. The piece was released in 2011 as part of the album called Minecraft Volume Alpha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBkTkxKDduc One of the musical elements in this piece that I thought stood out is dynamics. The song begins very quietly and barely noticeable, while building up in volume until reaching the ch...

Hi, my name is Eugene. I was born in Los Angeles, California, but didn't stay for long until moving to Alaska and being raised in Anchorage. I'm pursuing a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering at UAF and currently in my fourth year. Some things I enjoy doing are playing video games, reading, and having a nice cup of coffee. I've traveled to South Korea on several occasions to see family, and it has given me interesting experiences, though it is hard to not feel embarrassed when I can't speak my family's tongue fluently. Hopefully that becomes an improvement for the future. Mysterious black hole When I joined my first band class back in elementary school, I picked the flute first out of interest. Then I switched to the trumpet for another short time until I eventually stuck with the trombone, all the way to the end of high school. I also took some piano lessons from someone my parents knew, but would always find myself bored and struggling to stay awake. Later...
